The Colonial Williamsburg Courthouse of 1770 was the seat of local government and continued to house municipal and county courts until 1932. One of Williamsburg's original 18th-century buildings and a dominate feature of Market Square,Williamsburg Courthouse is where the good people of Williamsburg came together on May 1, 1783 to hear of the end of the war with England, just as seven years before, a local citizen read there the Declaration of Independence. Inside you will find a full and complete court house with public seating, witness box, seats for lawyers and judges. A side room offers an elegant meeting area with a covered table - perfect for fomenting rebellion or revolution!
