Runtime Revolution Live 2008 wrapped up earlier this week in Las Vegas, where developers that use
Runtime Revolution cross platform development environment gathered. You can get a short recap of the events on my blog for
Revolution Live 2008 Day 1 and
Revolution Live 2008 Day 2. Sadly a technical problem impacted my reporting of day 2.
Except for some technical problems with the mens restroom in the Apollo Convention Center, the conference went well - an evening get together on the pre-conference day gave everyone a chance to enjoy some free drinks and catch up. Many attendees had previously attended the RevCon West meetings in Monterey, California. Sadly,
Chipp Walters, who has designed many excellent solutions based on Revolution couldn't come. Chipp is also
a talented 3D artist and makes utility add-ons for e-on software's Vue.
Some of the best news from the event were the announced plans to develop a web plugin that can play back Revolution projects, as well as a "server-side" system for inserting Revolution code into web pages. Combined with the embedded web control, there is little in Revolution that doesn't have an internet feature. I was very interested to hear that
Andre Garzia was working on a
Twitter client in Revolution.
Two of my favorite presentations were
Tactile Media Scott Rossi's multimedia presentations on making irregular window shapes and PDS Labs Phil Davis' presentation on
managing USB devices from Revolution.
RevSelect vendors also had some exposure, though I did not often get time to talk about
Valentina Reports, a new reporting system coming out that supports
Valentina for Revolution. It got limited exposure, but I was very impressed with
Daniels-Mara's Visual Application Browser.
I also led a birds-of-a-feather meeting for developers interested in either reselling through the
Mirye Online Store or having their products published by Mirye, including details about our affiliate program, marketing efforts and benefits.
The event also let me to believe that a plan of mine to start an online magazine that focuses on cross-platform design and development (including Revolution) is about ripe. Anyone who is interested in participating in this, should contact me.
